Repair Your Air Conditioner Unit

I live in the southern United States. This part of the country experiences extremely hot summers. Therefore, my air conditioner is an important fixture in my home. A few years ago, it unexpectedly stopped working one balmy July day. The temperatures in my home quickly became unbearable. In order to get relief from the sweltering temperatures, I contacted a local HVAC contractor. This individual came to my home and inspected my air conditioning unit. After his inspection, he told me that he only needed to make a simple repair to my system. In a few minutes, I had a working air conditioning unit again. On this blog, you will discover the most common types of repairs completed on air conditioning systems.

HVAC Systems Are Important In Day Cares

If you run a daycare center for infants and young children, then you are going to want to make sure you have a properly running air conditioning and heating system. There are a lot of reasons why a properly maintained and good-running HVAC system is very important, and you'll learn about some of these important reasons when you read below.

The health and well-being of the children

The first and most important reason why it's important to have a proper HVAC system in your daycare has to do with the health and well-being of the children that are in your care. Babies are more susceptible to overheating and heat-related illnesses because they aren't able to cool themselves as well as adults and even older children. Also, babies can't tell you when they are getting overheated or when they are feeling too cold. Instead, you will have to look for signs that the temperature is getting to them and when you have a number of children in your day care, it can, unfortunately, be too easy to miss the signs until you are dealing with a serious situation.

Signs a baby may be overheated

A baby may show they are overheated by having sweaty hair, a sweaty back, a sweaty chest, a high pulse, reddening of their ears, and in some cases, they can have a fever.

An emergency situation can be if it is hot in the daycare and a baby has a temperature, fast breathing, a flushed or pale look, a fast pulse rate, or appear sluggish or lethargic. The baby needs to be taken out of all clothing, and they need to be given oral fluids while a call is made to get the paramedics out to them.

Signs a baby may be too cold

A baby that is too cold won't show much movement. In fact, they may become so cold that they don't cry, and they may not even want to eat. This is due to the fact that they are trying to use all of their energy on trying to warm themselves up. A baby that has become too cold will have cold extremities and even their chest will feel cool to the touch.

If the baby is allowed to go past this initial state of being too cold, then they can slip into a real danger zone in which the baby becomes chilled. When a baby is chilled the medical term used for it is neonatal cold syndrome, and this is the point where the baby's vital functions will slow down, and the infant will slip into a lethargic state. They will be hard to arouse and won't move on their own. Their extremities can look swollen and be a bright pink color. This is an emergency situation in which the paramedics need to come out immediately while someone tries to warm the baby up.
